Settlement counselors play an important role in helping new immigrants successfully integrate into our society. Cultural diversity in our community requires that settlement workers develop cross-cultural competence and knowledge in order to serve a diverse client base. Misunderstandings and miscommunications arising from cultural and worldview differences may affect rapport and relationship building, as well as the success of counseling itself. |
